If you are here, then you are looking for someone to talk to – I can be that person. I provide an opportunity to discuss your thoughts in a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive environment, allowing you to receive support in a truly compassionate way throughout your therapy journey.
Hi, I'm Charlie. My greatest aim is to make things easier for you to enable you on the journey you are looking to take.
I'm an integrative counsellor, meaning I can draw on many different theories, though I am based in person-centred therapy. This means I have a core in an empathic, non-judgemental and humanistic approach, considering you and your needs as the priority. I am a BACP member with experience in short to long-term session planning.
I work face-to-face, online and via phone, giving you control over mode of contact. I also offer both short- and long-term contracts, enabling us to tailor your counselling to your specific needs.
I am LGBTQIA+ positive and I welcome all to my service. Being disabled personally, I will only work in accessible rooms myself. I welcome all from age 12 upwards.
To tell you a little about me – I have chronic illnesses myself (Lupus, ADHD/ADD and Ehlers-Danlos). I started my counselling journey after sadly losing both my parents to terminal illnesses in 2016. Having gone through such grief and loss, I wanted to utilise these emotions for something useful.
As part of the required training, we complete a placement; mine has been with a trauma centre (sexual abuse and trauma) and I have carried on working with this agency since I finished. This work has taught me a great deal and the work brings a myriad of other issues; equipping me the capacity to cover a variety of issues including everything from anxiety and depression to relationships and sexual issues.
Together, we can help you to unpack your past and make room for you.
I am an integrative counsellor, which means I can draw from other theories, though I am based in person-centred theory. This means the work we do is based on that empathetic and connected therapeutic bond, but this can be supplemented with CBT or somatic theory (a trauma and stress related theory), or we can draw on psychodynamic principles to understand your past.
I do recommend mindfulness and journaling as part of the process, as this supports your work within our sessions but the completion of any work outside of our sessions, is your choice.
My specialism is trauma work and chronic illnesses, but this encompasses a multitude of types of therapy as everything is included within these headings. Trauma can be from sexual abuse or historic child abuse, or even an accident but also includes witnessing another's abuse, such as a parent.
Trauma can also be things not necessarily thought of as abuse - such as grief and bereavement, life changes, relationships, sex issues, cPTSD/depression and anxiety, OCD and BDD, to name but a few.
As stated by Bessel van der Kolk (2015): "The Body Keeps The Score“ - meaning it retains the pain of what we see and feel.
I have experience working with LGBTQIA+ individuals and those of Neurodiverse backgrounds.
As someone who is ADHD myself, I offer a service that is open and extremely welcoming to people with Neurodiverse/LGBTQIA+ backgrounds, and I offer therapy to everyone from 12+ to 90.
I will only work in environments that are welcoming to those of the above groups (otherwise I would never be able to enter!), therefore, I can assure you of accessibility.
People come to me for help with a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through counselling:
Feelings of stress or anxiety
Panic attacks
Relationship problems
Grief, loss or bereavement
Life changes - marriages, break-ups or job changes
Trauma and post-traumatic stress
Abuse
Depression
Problems with confidence or self-esteem
Anger management
Issues relating to sexuality
Difficulties at work or in retirement
Problems with family or school life
I provide face-to-face sessions from accessible rooms in Northampton, Bedford, Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas.
In addition to providing face-to-face therapy, I also offer telephone counselling and online sessions for clients throughout the UK.
Sessions last for 50 minutes, usually taking place on a weekly basis, costing from £50 per session. I provide a certain number of reduced appointments (reviewed every 3-6 months) for those on low incomes or students; please contact me for availability.
An initial 10-15 minute conversation is free to discuss our possible work, your goals and your needs – please email me to enquire further.
Please note: cancellations require a 24-hour notice, or the payment for the cancelled appointment is due; payment is to be made via cash or bank transfer.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial chat. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on 07402 988447 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
All enquires are strictly confidential.
